Cindy Crawford is a name to behold not just in the modeling world but also in all of Hollywood. Her beautiful career, along with her works outside of showbiz, especially those that concern charity, endeared her to a worldwide audience.

Her Beginnings

Cindy Crawford was born Cynthia Ann Crawford on February 20th, 1966 in DeKalb, Illinois. Her parents, John Crawford and Jennifer Sue Crawford-Moluf, were supportive of her chosen career right from the very beginning.

Prior to modeling, Cindy was busy with regular things teens are usually busy with. She finished her secondary at DeKalb High School as a valedictorian. She attended Northwestern University in college, taking up chemical engineering, but was forced to leave after just one quarter due to the modeling opportunities that unfolded right before her beautiful eyes.

Cindy was discovered by a newspaper photographer while she was into her summer job at 16. In no time, she was entered into the Look of the Year contest and ended up as a runner-up. After that, Elite Model Management, a top modeling agency absorbed her, took her in its stable, and managed her career. This is about the time she made the move from Illinois to New York City.

Her Beautiful Career

Cindy immediately wowed the modeling world as soon as she made her entrance. Throughout her successful career that spanned three decades ad counting, she graced countless covers of magazines, garnered several recognitions and awards, and earned the heart of many.

Cindy’s athletic frame, standing at 5 foot nine inches, and her beautiful face were her strengths. She was invited to grace fashion campaigns one after another and has lent her charms to many popular women brands including Maybelline, Clairol, and Revlon. She was also repeatedly dressed by widely popular designers, including Gianni Versace.

Cindy was, at the height of her career as a supermodel, the most photographed and well-loved face in the industry. That’s why it is no longer surprising when she made a jump to acting. She was first featured in the Michael J. Fox movie titled “The Secret of My Success”. Later on, she did full-length films including “Fair Game” and “The Simian Line”. Cindy was also featured in an MTV show titled “House of Beauty”.

Cindy was also featured in several videos including “Freedom 90”, “Please Come Home for Christmas”, and several exercise videos. Her company, Craw Daddy Productions released “Cindy Crawford: Shape your Body”, “Cindy Crawford: The Next Challenge”, and “Cindy Crawford: A New Dimension”.

Cindy’s take in other avenues apart from modeling did not allow her spotlight to dwindle even a bit. She has constantly ranked in beautiful lists and world’s sexiest people lists. Even when she reached a ripe age, she was never startled with the introduction of new models. She has stood her ground and held on to it. At 40, she was even named the 26th of the Hot 100 named by maxim magazine.

Cindy also bravely posed nude for Playboy magazine in 1988. A decade later, she came back to do the stint again. Both were shot by photographer Herb Ritts.

In 2000, Cindy decided to go into early retirement from modeling although she would accept gigs here and there. Product endorsement is something that she never gave up on. That’s why her fans continue to see here beautiful face in many places.

Apart from her commercial endorsements, Cindy also went into launching a new furniture line under the name “Cindy Crawford Home Collection”. It was manufactured by HM Richards and was distributed widely through numerous retailers.

Cindy is also committed to caring for her family. She was previously married to charismatic actor Richard Gere but got divorced in 1995. Three years later, Cindy found a new and everlasting love in Rande Gerber with whom she remains married to this day. They have two kids named Presley Walker and Kaia Jordan. The younger child modeled for a Versace outfit but had put her career on hold to concentrate on more important matters.

Beautiful Soul

There’s no denying that Cindy Crawford is one of the most beautiful faces in the industry. But it must also be expressed that the supermodel also has a beautiful soul. She has been doing charity work for several organizations and foundations, caring for different causes. Her top priority is childhood leukemia. She has been giving part of her proceeds to medical research. The reason leukemia is closest to her heart is because her brother Jeff succumbed to the disease when the model was only ten years old.

Cindy has been a long-time supporter for University of Wisconsin-Madison’s pediatric oncology program. It is the same hospital where her brother was treated. She has also been an honorary member of Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation.

Aside from leukemia, there are many causes that Cindy Crawford is very passionate about. The list of charities and foundations that the model supports is quite long. It includes Susan G. Komen for the Cure, Ronald McDonald House Charities, PETA, Love Our Children USA, and New York Coalition for Healthy School Food among others.

In politics, Cindy was a known supporter of Barack Obama when he run for presidency in 2008 but has recently switched gears and is said to be supporting Mitt Romey.
