Jesse Ventura was born on July 15, 1951 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, USA. During the 1970s and 80s, he was a professional wrestler and later a pro wrestling color commentator. In 1990 he ran and won as Mayor of Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. In 1998 he was chosen by the people as Governor of Minnesota.
After his term ended, Ventura decided not to run for reelection, saying his family was not getting enough privacy. However, he has remained vocal about various issues affecting Americans.
On Charity Works
He is a believer and supporter of various private charity groups but does not adhere to government charity. He believes the government should focus on creating more jobs and helping people help themselves.
On the Economy
On fiscal matters, Ventura believes the government should do away with the Congressional pork barrel and bring back the surplus money to their constituents. He is also in favor of government facilitating various businesses. He is also an advocate of keeping state commitment prior to spending.
Jesse Ventura Political Views on Civil Rights
He believes people should respect one another’s cultural beliefs and that different lifestyles should be tolerated by society. He is also a supporter of equal opportunity for women and does not see anything wrong with gay partnerships. He is also a firm supporter of the principles in the Equal Rights Amendments.
On Crime and Punishment
He is against the death penalty and believes there should be a balance between punishing the guilty and rehabilitating people behind bars. He is also in favor of imposing stiffer sanctions against drunk drivers, particularly those who are repeat offenders.
On Education
For Ventura, education is a lifelong commitment and there should be training for various types of work and how to deal with the many challenges in life. In short, he does not believe education should stop after graduating from college. He is also encouraging neighborhoods to maintain their public schools.
On the Environment
Ventura is in favor of recycling so natural resources are preserved. He is also an advocate of teaching children early on the value of preserving the environment. To fight pollution, he is endorsing the use of ethanol rather than the MTBE in gas.
On Family and Children
For the former Minnesota Governor, the community and the parents are more responsible for establishing the behavior of the child rather than any government. He is also a firm believer of the fact fathers should play more significant roles in raising kids.
On Gun Ownership
He is in favor of gun ownership but the owner must assume full responsibility for the weapon.
On Health Care
Ventura believes the government should focus on prevention and not just cures. He is particularly concerned about preventing illness that could affect children. He is also in favor of keeping state tobacco settlement funds safe from any possible Federal seizure.
Jesse Ventura and his wife Theresa Larson Masters have two children. He has also written several books including “I Ain’t Got Time to Bleed” and “Do I Stand Alone?”.
