Martina McBride was born Martina Mariea Schiff in Sharon, Kansas, on July 29, 1966. This country music songwriter slash singer has been dubbed as country music’s Celine Dione. Her astoundingly breathtaking soprano is hailed as one of the most powerful vocal instruments in today’s contemporary music. She makes an even more thrilling impact when she applies those vocal chords to songs of relatively uncommon integrity.
Martina McBride’s Beginnings
Martina was raised in a small town that has a population of only about 200. Her father, Daryl, was both a cabinetry shop owner and a farmer. The young Martina was exposed to country music and acquired her passion for singing early in her life. Her first stage stint was singing for her father’s band, The Schiffters.
She never actually thought of making a career out of singing in spite of the fact that her role in the band progressed quite well. She only realized her passion for music by the time she entered college. Martina met John McBride in 1987 and got engaged a few months later. They were married and moved to Nashville, Tennessee in 1989. With John’s help, she was able to produce a demo tape which earned her an RCA Nashville recording contract in 1991.
Breakthroughs and Successes
The songs from Martina McBride’s first album The ‘Time Has Come’ didn’t get as much air time in spite of all the many positive reviews it has gained. However, her second album, ‘The Way that I Am’ produced her big hits in 1993. Her third album, ‘Wild Angels’, also garnered a lot of top 10 hits in 1995 and 1996. It was only when she released her fourth album, ‘Evolution’, that she gained a spot in the top 10 country charts.
The songs from that album not only made it into the top charts of the country billboard it also gained ground in the adult contemporary charts. She reached sales to double platinum status by selling two million copies in 1998. The following year, she was awarded as the Female Vocalist of the Year. She continues to produce ground breaking albums to this day.
Other than being a big name in country music and other musical genres, Martina McBride also shares her voice in her charity work. She is a spokesperson for various causes. She is the spokesperson for the National Network to End Domestic Violence. She also supports charities like Kiss for a Cause, Libby Cross, Heroes in Heels, Mary Kay Ash Charitable Foundation, TJ Martell Foundation, and the Wish Upon a Hero Foundation.
