The Baldwins form a part of Hollywood’s rich history. Aside from their charming looks, there is also their significant talent in acting, making them a name to reckon with in terms of the roles they have played in previous years.
Stephen Baldwin is part of the famous Baldwin pack. He is the youngest of the four brothers that invaded the industry and left an imprint in its history pages. Stephen is not only the youngest. He has also made a name for himself for his many charity works ad for his open expression of evangelical Christian faith.
Stephen Baldwin was born Stephen Andrew Baldwin on May 12, 1966. He was born to parents Carol Newcomb and father Alexander Rae Baldwin Jr., who died of lung cancer in 1983. He has three brothers, all of whom are notable actors – William, Alec, and Daniel – and two sisters named Elizabeth Keuchler and Jane Sasso.
The Baldwin brothers are known for their significant contributions in the showbiz industry, with looks that women die for and talents that could give other Hollywood A-listers a run for their money.
His Showbiz Career
Stephen started his love affair with showbiz since he was still in Berner High School where he was an opera singer. In college, he chose to attend the American Academy of Dramatic Arts. At about the same time, he was also seen playing roles in shows like “Family Ties” and “Kate and Allie”.
It was in 1988 that Stephen got a major film role in the 1988 movie “The Beast”, which was followed shortly by several other projects including “Born on the Fourth of July” and “Last Exit to Brooklyn”. More projects came Stephen’s way in 1990s, including film assignments in “The Usual Suspects”, “Bio-Dome”, and “Threesome”. The opening of 2000 was a good one for him, getting a role in “The Flintstones in Viva Rock Vegas” as Barney Rubble. For the rest of 2000, Stephen mostly concentrated on TV assignments, having participated in “Celebrity Mole Hawaii”, “Celebrity Mole Yucatan”, “Ty Murray’s Celebrity Bull Riding Challenge”, “Celebrity Apprentice”, and “I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here!”.
One of his most controversial TV appearances was as a housemate in “Celebrity Big Brother”. This move made all tongues a-wagging and also made several strong statements regarding Stephen’s religious activism and views on politics.
Inside the Celebrity Big Brother house, he is often seen reading Bible passages to his fellow celebrity housemates, even attempting to convert eventual winner Alex Reid to Christian faith. He was the fourth evictee, when he came face-to-face in a three-way vote against Sisqo and Ivana Trump.
Stephen Baldwin is very active in supporting good causes. Some of the foundations he supports include Racing for Kids, Children’s Hospital Los Angeles, Bony Pony Ranch, Padres Contra el Cancer, and Caro M. Baldwin Cancer Research Fund.
Among the causes he strongly work for include family support, health, parent support, education, creative arts, disadvantaged youths, and cancer. Through his successful acting career, he has made donations here and there to support the worthy causes that intend to extend a helping hand to those in need.
Stephen has continuously participated in fund-raising programs, lending what he’s got to help raise funds for the benefit of the under-privileged and the needy. He is especially concerned about poverty-stricken children. He also has special favors for cancer-stricken patients. His dad, as you know, died of lung cancer. His mother, meanwhile, had two mastectomies after she was diagnosed of breast cancer in 1990.
Politics and Stephen Baldwin
Stephen had been in the news for his religious activism and strong political views.
Since he released a book in 2006 titled “The Unusual Suspect”, his conversion to Christian faith right after the 9/11 attack became public. It was also during that year that he founded the Breakthrough Ministry. Two years later, in 2008, Stephen formed Antioch Ministry, which intends to facilitate his calling and his talents. Shortly after that, he presided a third ministry, Now More than Ever, which is designed to reach out to those in the military.
In terms of politics, Stephen was caught supporting Sam Brownback for Presidency. When the candidate backed off, he switched to Mike Huckabee, who also decided to leave the race before it even started. Finally, Stephen went for the McCain-Palin tandem. Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin was even heard joking with Alec Baldwin in a Saturday Night Live episode about Stephen being her favorite of the four Baldwin brothers. That’s because Alec was a Democrat and Stephen was a Republican. He was also noted attending a Tea Party demonstration at the U.S. Capitol Building in 2009.
Just last year, in 2011, Stephen considered the possibility of running for the mayoral race in next year’s elections in New York. But that would mean he will be put against his brother Alec. We will definitely what happens next.
